Robert Altman, who is quick to tell you he is not the movie director, is a photographer of considerable fame, having contributed some of his classic photos to a re-creation of the Rolling Stone offices in the recently released film, “Almost Famous”.
Speaking of that era, Altman reminisced, “It was a time of real joy for me. When rock was just emerging, we had a lot of access to the stars. I woke Janis Joplin at three in the afternoon and she said to me, ‘Do you know what time it is?’ She was warm, giggly, fun and very positive.”
A Rolling Stone photographer in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, Altman’s photo of a strutting Tina Turner graces the cover of the magazines’ retrospective book of rock photography.
